Fusebusters: On The Double!

FB160801

Dutch band  Fusebusters on their second CD prove that they are not a blues band in the narrowest sense of the word. Just like Ronnie Earl and Duke Robillard, of whom they cover one respectively two songs, they self-assuredly look over the fence that separates blues from jazz. Obviously their own compositions comfortably revolve in this twilight zone. And this is not used entirely pejoratively. Just listen to the track “I wish”, which is skilfully built up. The result is an enjoyable disc, which, by attracting tenor-saxophone player “Uncle/Ome” Jan de Ligt, has gained a great deal of maturity. The “pub-crawling”-blues fan , devoted to three cords and twelve bars, will not see it as fodder to the ears, but for me “On The Double” is the password that will render access to the somewhat larger blues stages.
